Former Bethune-Cookman assistant basketball coach, Rick Walron asked me if I was interested in going with him on an overseas basketball camp. We had discussed these opportunities for years and this time it became a reality.
Little did I know at the time, I would end up in China!
I ended up having roughly 10 days to get my papers in order for the the trip around the world. One of the things I learned was that a Passport and a Visa are not the same thing. It was a challenge to get all of the required paperwork to make the trip.
I decided I wanted to leave from Orlando, where Rick was leaving from. I had NO desire to make a trip to China and with 1.4 billion people and land there not knowing anyone. If I went with Rick at least we would be lost together.
Needless to say, there was no one at Shanghai Airport to meet us.
That is a story for another day.
We were involved with Rudolfo Fonseca as we spent 11 days helping to establish basketball academies within Mainland China.
It was an exceptional experience and there was much there that was extremely different and very much the same.
There is more information below but I am willing to share my experience in greater detail.
